Canada’s opposition leader faces test

The next few days will be critical in judging whether Michael Ignatieff has succeeded in making the transition from media celebrity and Harvard scholar to Canadian politician.

Mr Ignatieff, now leader of the opposition Liberal party, raised the stakes in his political career earlier this month by threatening to use the first opportunity after Parliament reconvened to introduce a vote of no-confidence against the minority Conservative government, led by Stephen Harper, prime minister.
