BT poised to swing axe on jobs

Ian Livingston, chief executive of BT, has underlined his determination to revive the telecoms company through cost cuts, saying its total headcount must fall in 2009.

It would be the first drop in headcount in five years, with some of the jobs due to go at BT Global Services, the division that prompted the company’s shock profit warning last week.
