EU to consider spam crackdown

European Union authorities are considering new rules to toughen and harmonise the penalties for sending spam messages across the 27-country bloc.

Viviane Reding, the EU telecoms commissioner, and her counterpart for consumer affairs, Meglena Kuneva, are expected to call on Tuesday for “consistent and severe sanctions”.
