S Korean won edges higher but fears remain

South Korea’s currency gained nearly 3 per cent on Friday, a day after suffering its worst one-day plunge for a decade, but fears remained that the country might become Asia’s first victim of the global financial crisis.

The Bank of Korea said it would change rules to provide dollar liquidity to local banks directly through auctions in the foreign exchange swap market from next week.
