Credit crunch fails to bite into Thorntons

The credit crunch may be biting but consumers’ appetite for chocolate is still strong as Thorntons, the confectioner, announced improved sales.

The company revealed 0.9 per cent higher revenues from like-for-like sales in the 14 weeks to October 4, but this marks a significant slowdown from last year’s figures, which showed a 9.6 per cent rise compared with the same period in 2006.
