P&G feels pinch from frugal consumers

Procter & Gamble, the world’s largest consumer products company, reported quarterly sales and earnings on Thursday that beat its forecasts and Wall Street’s expectations, sending its shares up more than 3 per cent.

But it also reported declines in unit volume sales across all of its business units, as consumers cut back on its leading brand name products such as Gillette razors and Pampers baby products.
