Taiwan limits short-selling

Taiwan regulators followed larger markets on Sunday in banning short sales of key stocks in the island’s market in an attempt to protect the local bourse from further fallout of the global financial crisis.

The Financial Supervisory Commission said that it was going to impose a ban on short-selling of component stocks of the Taiwan 50, the Taiwan mid-cap 100 and the Taiwan Technology Index if they are trading below the previous session’s closing price.
