Australia needs less financial engineering

Infrastructure has been a popular sector for Australian investors as the country’s economy has developed rapidly, but the global financial crisis has exposed big issues with the investment models used to fund projects.

The credit crunch hit Australian infrastructure hard, as it did most sectors, with many projects unable to raise either the debt or the equity to proceed.
