Restricted charity tax breaks ruled unlawful

Pressure on governments to give tax breaks for cross-border charitable giving has intensified after Europe’s highest court said restricting tax relief to domestic charities was unlawful.

The European Court of Justice said rules restricting tax relief on donations made to other member states breached the principles of free movement of capital.
