Meltdown brings solid virtues to fore

Scotland has twice been in the global spotlight recently for reasons it did not relish – the implosion of the country’s two biggest banks, and international controversy over the release of the Lockerbie bomber.

The decision in August to free, on compassionate grounds, the Libyan convicted of the destruction of Pan Am Flight 103 infuriated the US, though Scottish business leaders so far claim to have felt no adverse trade effects.
