N Korea launch sparks arms race fear

North Korea’s rocket launch at the weekend has sparked concerns about a new arms race in east Asia after South Korea suggested it might reconsider its commitment not to develop long-range missiles.

Han Seung-soo, South Korea’s prime minister, told parliament that Seoul would reconsider its adherence to the Missile Technology Control Regime, an informal international agreement to combat the proliferation of long-range nuclear missiles.
