Kirin, Japan’s second-largest brewer, on Tuesday confirmed that it was in early talks to merge with smaller rival Suntory, a deal which would create a food and beverage group with combined sales of Y3,820bn ($41bn).
“Kirin and Suntory were in early stages of negotiation regarding possible integration and no concrete decision had been made,” the company said in a statement to the Tokyo’s Stock Exchange on Tuesday.
