Acer looks to Gateway for a brighter future

Wang Jen-tang, Acer’s chairman and chief executive, appeared triumphant this week over his company’s deal to acquire Gateway, the US personal computer maker.

But a 7 per cent drop in Acer shares on Tuesday, the maximum daily movement on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, poured cold water on the enthusiasm.
