Islamabad faces fuel price rise backlash

Pakistan’s government raised fuel prices by up to 17 per cent on Monday, in a move that is likely to stoke inflation rates already at a 30-year high and generate more discontent.

As the Financial Times reported this month, Islamabad is seeking to phase out fuel subsidies in the financial year from July 1 in an effort to bring its ballooning budget deficit under control.
