Mukasey rejects waterboarding probe

The US justice department will not investigate whether Central Intelligence Agency operatives broke the law by “waterboarding” three al-Qaeda suspects, the attorney-general said on Thursday.

Michael Mukasey rejected lawmakers’ calls to launch a criminal inquiry following the disclosure that CIA interrogators had used the harsh interrogation technique, which involves simulating drowning, in 2002 and 2003.
