Police storm Zimbabwe opposition HQ

Armed riot police stormed the headquarters of Zimbabwe’s opposition party on Friday and arrested scores of supporters and activists in the most serious clampdown since last month’s disputed elections.

The Movement for Democratic Change said those arrested were people who had fled the state-sponsored violence that has flared since the March 29 vote. The police said they were arresting people in connection with arson attacks east of Harare, the capital.
