Cambridge insists on new A-level top grade

Cambridge university is to combat exam grade inflation by demanding at least one A* – the new top A-level grade to be introduced next year – from the vast majority of its potential students.

The top university’s move could prompt other leading institutions to follow suit, putting pressure on aspiring undergraduates to be outstanding in their best subject, rather than perform similarly well in three.
