Tarp inspector threatens subpoena

Neil Barofsky, the special inspector general for the $700bn government bail-out fund, stepped up his criticism of the US Treasury on Wednesday, threatening to subpoena documents from the administration.

The so-called “Tarp cop” has taken an increasingly tough line on the administration’s handling of the troubled asset relief programme even as the Treasury pledges transparency.
