Engineers ride out the credit storm and even look to gains

The real economy doesn't get much more real than McKechnie Plastic Components. The Yorkshire-based company makes engineered parts for a variety of industries including the widgets used in bottles of draught Guinness.

Its products may be humble compared with the financial wizardry of the big banks and the glamour of high street retailers, but so far MPC is in the enviable position of avoiding the pains of, and even benefiting from, the credit squeeze.
