Cabinet plea for students with poor A-levels

Privileged children who underperform at A-level should not be “excluded” from universities purely on the basis of their exam results, Lord Mandelson said on Tuesday.

The business secretary’s move to soothe the fears of middle-class parents came as he launched a fresh review into admission policies at top universities in order to provide “fair access”.
