Good ol’ buddy Bill saunters in,delegates’ dream PM in waiting

We had already had The Leader Past (almost) and The Leader Future (subject to contract). Now came the leader of the Labour party’s dreams.

He sauntered in, wearing a tactful red tie and gave a salute to the hall that was half commander-in-chief and half good ol’ buddy. Then Bill Clinton went to the lectern and caught the mood of the Labour party with absolute clarity, as if he had spent his political life referring back composite motions at thinly attended ward meetings.
