Strong results for drugmakers Lilly and BMS

Both Eli Lilly and Bristol-Myers Squibb, two of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the US, reported an increase in second quarter earnings on Thursday, driven by strong drug sales and a weak dollar that helped drive products overseas.

Eli Lilly, the world’s largest maker of psychiatric drugs, said its earnings increased 44 per cent on sales of the antidepressant Cymbalta and the impotence pill Cialis.
