Bipartisan US energy group gains support

Efforts to forge compromise legislation on US energy policy were bolstered on Tuesday when six senators added their names to a proposal that relies on a combination of higher taxation for big oil companies and more offshore drilling to pay for renewable energy incentives.

Congress left for summer recess at the end of July without striking a deal on new measures to tackle the high price of petrol amid bitter election-year partisan bickering.
