Betting on Fed funds futures still a popular and widely used instrument

CBOT’s binary options give investors a new way to take views on US interest rates, but traditional Fed funds futures, introduced in 1988, are still among the most popular and widely used instruments for that purpose.

Fed funds futures are a relatively pure play on the Fed funds target rate – the short- term benchmark that the US Federal Reserve sets at each meeting, which represents the rate at which banks lend each other money overnight.
