News International, the UK newspapers arm of News Corp, has been rocked by the emergence of damaging allegations of phone hacking and illegal payments to police officers at some of its papers.

As well as the Leveson inquiry into press standards there are now three related police investigations into the scandal. Operation Elveden is investigating payments to police officers, Operation Weeting is looking at alleged phone hacking, and Operation Tuleta is investigating allegations that computers were hacked to gain access to private information.

On May 14, former News International chief executive and editor of The Sun Rebekah Brooks was charged along with her husband and four other individuals with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Later that month, on May 30, Andy Coulson, the former editor of the News of the World and David Cameron’s first director of communications in Downing Street, was arrested and charged by police investigating allegations of perjury in a Scottish court

This interactive graphic looks at prominent people involved, the biggest milestones in the unfolding story and the status of those arrested and charged in connection with the three police inquiries.
