UK refuses to publish advice on Iraq war

Jack Straw, UK foreign secretary, on Thursday rejected opposition calls to publish government advice on the legality of the Iraq war.

Responding to fresh allegations that Lord Goldsmith, attorney general, concluded the war would be legal without a second United Nations resolution only after changing his mind, Mr Straw repeated denials that the attorney was leaned on to give the government the legal authority it needed to commit troops to Iraq.
