Baugur to cut jobs and close office

Baugur, the investment group that was an emblem of Iceland’s rise as a business force, is to shut its Reykjavik office and lay off staff in London.

Complicated talks are continuing between the company – which owns stakes in UK retailers such as House of Fraser and Hamleys – and Iceland’s government and distressed banks over Baugur’s future.
