Tokyo’s troubles should be cautionary tale

By the common definition of two successive quarters of contraction, Japan’s economy, like that of the eurozone, has been in recession since April.

On a superficial level, Japan can claim some success of late. Its period of growth since 2002 has been the longest continuous expansion since the second world war.
