Saudi-Syrian meeting aims to heal rift

Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah and the Syrian president, Bashar Assad, have resolved to seek “ways to strengthen co-operation in all areas”, according to a statement following a first round of talks in Damascus.

The Saudi king arrived in the Syrian capital on Wednesday on a symbolic two-day visit meant to signal the healing of the rift between the two countries.
