Protests threaten to drive out car plant

Anyone looking for signs of the violence in Singur in West Bengal state, the manufacturing hub for Tata’s ultra-cheap Nano car, would have been disappointed.

Near the site of the partially constructed plant, a clutch of pro-Nano protesters chanted in support of the project while the bored riot police assigned to guard them patronised a sugar cane cart and roadside tea stalls.
