Sir Geoffrey Cox, who has died just short of his 98th birthday, was a pioneer of television news as well as a soldier, diplomat and one of his generation’s most talented foreign correspondents.
He turned around a little-watched Independent Television News after he was appointed editor and chief executive in 1956 and went on to set the style and content of television news throughout Britain and much of Europe. In the UK he will probably be best remembered as the founder of ITV’s flagship News at Ten.
