Tiscali, the Italian telecoms group, has received informal interest from some of the largest Italian and UK telecoms groups after the deadline for a first round of bidding passed yesterday.

Vodafone, BT, Carphone Warehouse, BSkyB, Swisscom - via its Italian subsidiary Fastweb - and Wind are among the companies that have submitted expressions of interest. Telecom Italia has also considered a bid.
