Academy faces loss of sponsor

An academy is facing the loss of its long-term sponsor for the first time since the scheme for semi-independent state schools began.

The news could damage the government’s ability to find future backers, by suggesting that sponsorship is more trouble than it is worth. Finding sponsors is already likely to be harder in the coming months because the financial crisis has hit potential donors.
