Peru minister to quit after two days

Peru's new foreign minister said at the weekend he would step down - two days after being appointed - because of the controversy his nomination provoked.

President Alejandro Toledo sparked a political crisis last week by naming Fernando Olivera as his foreign minister. Mr Olivera had clashed with cabinet members over his support for the expansion of legalised cultivation of coca, the raw material for cocaine. Prime minister Carlos Ferrero resigned in protest at his appointment.
