EMI chief confident of ability to call a new tune

Given the aggressive plans that Guy Hands will unveil tomorrow for revamping EMI, it is fitting that the buy-out boss's favourite music industry metaphor is a military one.

"I often visualise the record industry as generals throwing CDs at the public, with their troops behind them," says the Terra Firma chief, sitting before a backdrop of the Tower of London and HMS Belfast in his glass panelled fourth-floor office.
