Stamp duty dithering hits sales of homes

The number of homes being sold fell further last month owing to the government’s indecision over its position on stamp duty, according to the body that represents estate agents in the UK.

The quantity of sales achieved per estate agent dropped to just five on average in August, from six the month before, and less than half the level transacted a year previously.
