John Snow, US Treasury secretary, will spend two days of his Asia tour in Japan and a week in China, a sign that it is in China the US has more pressing matters to discuss, with the renminbi top of the agenda.

Mr Snow arrives in Shanghai on Tuesday, heading inland to visit Chengdu before moving on in Beijing.
