The dollar took a pounding on the currency markets this week, tumbling to a record low against the euro as the prospect of further cuts in US interest rates weighed on the currency.

It fell to an all-time low of $1.4319 against the euro on Friday, before pulling back to stand at $1.4260, still down 0.6 per cent on the week.
