Grade defects to ITV in blow to BBC

ITV has poached Michael Grade to become its new executive chairman, providing an unexpected solution to the commercial broadcaster’s own management vacuum and stunning the BBC, which now has to complete licence fee negotiations without its chairman.

“I regard it as a real coup to have persuaded Michael to join us,” Sir Peter Burt, ITV’s outgoing non-executive chairman, said in a statement on Tuesday.
