A car bomb targeting a bus carrying soldiers in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli on Monday morning killed at least five people and wounded 24 others.

Eighteen of the victims were members of the armed forces. The explosion occurred just as parliament was convening in Beirut to vote on a new electoral law, the final part of a comprehensive peace deal between Lebanon’s pro- and anti-Syrian factions.
