Urgent inspections of helicopter gearboxes were ordered on Friday following the North Sea crash that killed 16 people this month.

Aviation experts said Super Puma helicopters of the type in the accident could be grounded if the checks, which must be completed by next Friday, did not lead to a better understanding of gearbox failures.
