Healthcare: Flourishing place to nurture ideas

A converted country house beside Leeds Bradford airport is home to one of Leeds’ few remaining textile businesses. The workers within are not weaving clothes but unique fabric strips to replace damaged ligaments. This is the home of Xiros, just one of a rising number of healthcare technology companies in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

Founded by a Leeds University academic in 1984, it outgrew a collection of terraced houses opposite the campus several years ago. This year it won a Queens Award for International Trade.
