Magna in pole position in Vauxhall rescue

A deal to rescue the European arm of General Motors, including the Vauxhall operations in the UK, from the brink of insolvency was emerging on Friday night as a Canadian auto company moved into pole position to take it over.

After a day of drama following Fiat’s withdrawal from negotiations with the German government to acquire the unit, Magna International was near to winning preferred bidder status after 11th-hour talks.
