Bush attacks Democrats’ housing crisis plan

George W. Bush on Thursday attacked housing legislation proposed by the Democratic leadership in the Senate, saying it would “do more to bail-out lenders and speculators than to help American families keep their homes”.

The US president’s words reflect the widening rift between his administration and Congress over the government’s response to the housing crisis, which is at the root of the sharp slowdown in economic growth.
