Of the two Bear Stearns hedge funds that collapsed last year, neither returned more than pennies to their investors even though one used much higher leverage than the other.

The High-Grade Structured Credit Strategies Enhanced Leverage fund was more than 10-times geared, while its older, less levered sister fund meanwhile was just less than six-times geared.
