Commerzbank is the favourite contender to buy Allianz’s Dresdner Bank subsidiary, in spite of a possible bid by China Development Bank for all or part of Dresdner.

The Asian interest comes as Commerzbank weighs up its long-awaited offer to buy Dresdner from Allianz. A deal could be announced as early as this weekend, people in German banking believe.
