Global health programmes adjust to hard times

In the battle against disease in the developing world, the past decade has been extraordinary. Billions of dollars have been channelled from north to south as donors have taken the fight to HIV, tuberculosis, malaria and other lethal infectious diseases. Millions of lives have been saved as a result.

But now there is a risk that a combination of the economic crisis and concerns raised by evaluations of the programmes will slow progress.
