House inflation slows to year low

House prices rose in April at their slowest pace so far this year, the Halifax said yesterday, a sign of cooling demand that is likely to be welcomed by the Bank of England as it strives to damp down inflation.

In its latest survey of the residential property market, the bank said house prices climbed by 1.1 per cent between March and April.
