FTSE falls as Man disappoints

London equities drifted lower by the close on Tuesday after BP’s flagship platform in the Gulf of Mexico was ravaged by Hurricane Dennis.

BP, the largest company in the FTSE 100, fell 2.3 per cent to 619½p after its Thunder Horse rig, situated 150 miles southeast of New Orleans, was left listing.
