Fate of BCE lies in lap of Supreme Court

Canada’s Supreme Court reserved judgment Tuesday in a case that could make or break the proposed $34bn buy-out of BCE, the Montreal telecoms group.

The seven judges gave no indication of when they would deliver their verdict in the case, which stems from complaints by BCE’s bondholders that their interests would be severely prejudiced as a result of the debt that BCE would take on to finance the buy-out.
